戻る YOUTH

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.
Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next, and the joy of the game of living.
In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so
long as it receives message of beauty, hope, cheer, and power from men
and from the infinite, so long you are young.
When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at twenty, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch the waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at eighty.
青春

青春とは人生のある期間をいうのではなく､こころの
状態をいうのだ。
青春とは、ばら色の頬､ みずみずしい唇、しなやか
な肢体ではなく、こころに豊かな想像力、強い意志
生き生きとし感情をもつことだ。
青春とは人生の深淵な泉から湧き出す新鮮な思い
である。
青春とは臆病心に打ち克つ勇気、易きに流れず
冒険を求める気概であり、時としてそれは20歳の
青年より60歳の人のこころに溢れているものだ。
人は年を重ねるだけでは老いない。 希望や理想を
失った時にこそはじめて老いる。
歳月は人の皮膚に皺を刻むが、こころに皺を刻む
ことはできない。
苦悩、恐怖、自身喪失などが気力を失わせ､精神を
衰えさせ気持ちを惨めにしてしまう。
60歳であろうと16歳であろうとひとにはみな、驚異に
魅せられ、子供のようなあくなき好奇心と人生の
喜びを楽しむこころがある。
ひとは誰しも胸の奥底にこころの琴線をもつ。 こころ
の琴線が周囲の人々や万物の事象から与えられる
美しさ、希望、喜び、勇気の波に触れている限り
ひとは若い。
こころの琴線を閉じるとき、精神は冷たい雪、絶望の
氷に閉ざされ、ひとは20歳であっても老いる。
こころの琴線を張り、希望の波に触れている限り、
ひとは80歳であっても青春の内に逝ける。
